Douglas Stowe
Furniture Showcase
These are selected early works from over thirty years of working with
American hardwoods. Because solid hardwoods continue to expand and
contract through the many seasons of use, I give special attention
in the design of my work to allow for wood's natural movement. I
use mortise and tenon joints and dovetails to give visual interest
to the finished work as well as lasting value.
That I have been able to continue to produce interesting works in
wood is a tribute to the creative involvement and imagination of my
many friends and patrons. The works shown here are one-of-a-kind
commissions and are not available for immediate purchase. If you
would like to begin a dialog, exploring the possibility for
commissioning work, please feel free to contact me. I am able to
produce only a few pieces each year, each of my own design but with
special attention to the interests and needs of my customers. If
you would like to know more about how to commission a piece of
furniture please clickhere.
I prefer to work with American hardwoods, most of which come from
within a 75 mile radius of my home in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Our
American hardwoods are a precious resource deserving of the highest
professional standards in their use. I use a variety of machines
and hand tools in my work, and take greatest pleasure when the
machines are quiet and my work becomes the concentration of hand
and eye. I invite you to join me in my work. There are great
pleasures in the scents of sassafras, cherry, and sugar maple and
the soft whisper of the plane.
