       How to Commission Furniture

I have been accepting furniture commissions for over twenty years, and would be glad to supply references whom you may contact about the quality of my work. With commissioned work, I follow this simple step-by-step procedure:
  • After a brief discussion of what the customer's needs are, preference for wood, and time constraints, I make a decision whether or not the project is within my capabilities and interest, and suggest a price range for the work.
  • If the suggested price range is within consideration by the customer, we exchange drawings or photos of similar work to facilitate the design process.
  • When enough information is available to begin the design process, I request a design deposit of 10% of the estimated price. This deposit is non-refundable, but does apply toward the final purchase price.
  • I provide the customer with drawings of the finished piece, establish a final price for the work, propose the date, method and approximate cost of delivery. Upon acceptance of the design by the customer, I require a deposit of 50% of the purchase price, less the amount of the design deposit.
  • At the time of completion, payment of the balance of the agreed price is required, along with crating and shipping, or delivery charges and applicable sales tax.
  • With your finished commission, I provide instructions on how to best care for your new furniture so it will give you many years of service and lasting beauty.

Customer satisfaction is my highest priority and the firm base upon which I have built my career.
